About the Centre
North Highland Cancer and Information Centre was officially opened in May 2008 by local MP John Thurso. Its aim is to provide emotional support and understanding that can only come from those who have been directly affected by cancer.
The centre is open weekly and provides a free confidential service, that supports men and women whose lives have been affected by cancer. Also available within the centre is an extensive library of information on all types of cancer.
For those wishing a bit of pampering or some relaxation we have a team of complementary therapists and a Beautician offering a range of treatments in the therapy room.
The kettle is always on and a warm welcome awaits everyone.
Our Logo.
Our logo of two sage leaves was designed and created by a local artist for the NHCISC. Sage leaves were chosen as they are associated with healing and have restorative health benefits. Sadly, the artist herself lost her life to cancer.
Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM)
The NHCISC holds the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) to show that it meets the standards required for a care environment for people living with cancer.

VolunteersThe NHCISC is run entirely by volunteers. Most volunteers start by becoming a visitor to the Centre. They see how the Centre operates and meet other people and learn how to share their cancer experiences with others in a Confidential setting. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer then speak to one of the committee who can advise on how you may be able to support this amazing local independent charity.
Update In March 2023 we recruited an Office Manager on a temporary basis to ease the administrative burden on some of the Committee members. It is hoped to develop this post so it becomes permanent and the service offered by the NHCISC is shared amongst more people in the community who are living with Cancer. |
